| career journey: from education to business leadership

Early Years in Education and Coaching

Driven by enthusiasm and the desire to make a difference, I began my career as a high school teacher and athletic coach in Chicago, Illinois. Those initial years were alive with the excitement of helping young minds develop, both in the classroom and out on the athletic field. Every lesson and practice offered the chance to nurture curiosity, teamwork, and discipline. The city’s vibrancy, the student body’s diversity, and the challenge of balancing academics with athletics all helped shape my growth as both an educator and a mentor.

Transition to Collegiate Athletics

After four years, I saw the opportunity to merge my passion for football and education on a broader stage. I accepted a position as an assistant coach for a college football program, taking on new responsibilities and facing a higher level of competition. In this role, I created game plans, managed recruitment, developed training programs, and fostered a culture of excellence. Over four more years, I sharpened my strategic thinking, embraced leadership challenges, and forged lasting bonds with athletes and coaches.

Following eight years in the field, my dedication led to an offer to become a collegiate head football coach. This new role required constructing a team that could compete nationally. Building the program from the ground up meant recruiting athletes who shared our vision, demanding discipline, and cultivating accountability. Together, we celebrated victories in conference play, earned national rankings, set school and national records and saw student-athletes succeed academically and personally. A major highlight was when the team set the school record for most wins in a season along with a national playoff berth and won the national collegiate award for Volunteer Service Organization of the year for service to the community.

Head Coach and Program Building

After seventeen years as a head coach and a growing family, I was ready to pursue a new adventure. I transitioned to the business world, where my leadership and organizational skills proved invaluable. Starting as a sales manager for a national company, I quickly adapted to the demands of the corporate environment, surpassing sales goals and motivating my team. Over four years, I developed a reputation as a supportive and results-driven leader.

ENTERING THE BUSINESS WORLD

Seeking further growth, I joined a small business for two years. In this dynamic environment, I managed operations, finance, marketing, and customer relations. The experience deepened my appreciation for adaptability and resilience and taught me the value of resourcefulness in entrepreneurship.

My most recent experience in the workforce spanning the last ten years has been spent within a large service company, where I began in upper management and progressively climbed the organizational ladder. This steady progression was driven by my commitment, strategic vision, and consistent ability to motivate those around me.

CORPORATE LEADERSHIP AND ADVANCEMENT

Ultimately, this journey led to my appointment as president of the company. In this pivotal role, I was responsible for overseeing major projects, steering organizational growth, and cultivating a culture based on integrity and collaboration. These responsibilities demanded both a clear strategic direction and the capacity to inspire collective effort across diverse teams.

PRESIDENCY AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT

Looking back, each phase from education and athletics to executive leadership was shaped by resilience, integrity, and an unwavering belief in people.

I’ve learned that true leadership isn’t about authority it’s about influence, support, and the ability to foster growth in others.

Through workshops, coaching, and speaking engagements, I now share the lessons learned from decades of hands-on leadership highlighting not only the challenges and responsibilities of guiding others but also the lasting impact a leader can have on individuals, teams, and entire organizations.
